Built in the 1960s the prison was built to house short-term prisoners and prisoners that were being transferred to the long-term facility Fort Leavenworth. Prisoners were given hard labor to do during their stay in the prison. The mess hall had the best food on base and was a popular lunch time spot for civilian workers and other base workers. The prison was generally kept a secret to the public during the time it was utilized by the Army. Today the facility is a construction yard.
