CUT ROSE CARE
Your
cut roses will live longer if some simple steps are
taken:
1. Display your roses in a cool location away from direct
sunlight, and drafts, for a long vase life roses should
never be subjected to temperatures above 70F.
2. Cut your rose stems every
couple days, place you roses in clean room temperature
water with flower food mixed into the water. Use our
home flower food recipe if
commercial flower food is not available.
(Water
containing measurable amounts of salt will kill your
flowers and should be avoided, water from homes with
a soft water system is not suitable for your fresh flowers.
Smoke
from cigarettes, and ripening fruit contain harmful
gases that will shorten your flowers vase life.)

| Your
fresh cut flower stems from Flower Magik should
look nice and clean. |
After
a day or two the stems will start to brown, keep
your flowers living longer by cutting them and changing
the water. |
Rotting
leaves and debris in your vase arrangement are a
major factor in the vase life of your flowers. Remove
all leaves and debris from the water and flower
stems. |
Premature
Rose Dying
The
primary cause of all of your roses dying at once is
"flower shock" which is extreme temperature
fluctuations from cold to hot (from a cool room too
a hot car interior) or a high heat room temperatures
( 70+ degrees) display environment. Avoid placing your
flowers under warm air drafts. Single flowers with a
dropping head is a symptom of the rose head not getting
water (see instructions for cutting
your roses)
Flower
Food Helps
The vase life of your roses
can be increased by 30 to 50 percent if floral preservative
or "flower food" is used in your vase arrangement
water. Flower food will keep your roses in good condition
much longer. Use our home flower
food recipe if no commercial flower food is available.
Cutting
Your Roses
Step
1.
Roses in vase arrangements should be should have the
stems cut every couple of days. With a sharp knife or
shears, cut about an inch off the end of each stem.
Hold the end of each stem under running water or submerge
the stem in water while cutting at an angle. This will
avoid the stem-end drawing in air. Be careful not to
cut through or scrape the green bark on the outside
of the stem.
Step
2. Mix floral preservative
(included with your roses from Flower Magik) in room
temperature water. Be sure to mix according to manufacturer's
instructions. Place the solution in your vase. If you
have some extra preservative solution, save it in a
specially marked container to add to your roses later.
If commercial flower food is not available,
use our home flower food recipe.
Step
3. Repeat these steps
in a day or two.

Reviving
a Wilted Rose
Occasionally
a rose will wilt, or develop a weak stem just below
the bud, causing the bloom to tip over. If you will
remove that bloom from the arrangement, re cut about
one-inch from the base of the stem (under water, of
course), then submerge the entire bloom, stem, and foliage
under water for twenty-minutes or so, you will find
the flower revives nicely and can be replaced in the
arrangement.
When reviving a rose in this matter, we suggest the
water be about 100 Fahrenheit, and that you be sure
to straighten the angle of the head or it will revive
with "bent Neck.". For long-stemmed roses,
a couple inches of water in the bottom of your bathtub
works well as a place you can lay the bloom out flat
under water.
