San Antonio de Padua
Founded
in 1771. Named for Saint Anthony of Lisbon,Portugal and Padova, Italy
(Patron saint of lost articles, the poor, and the starving). Restored
in 1904 and again after an earthquake, in 1949. Once used as a school
for their Order. The walls and unique facade of the church, and a few
arches, remain of the original. Located about 20 miles from King City
within Fort Hunter Ligget Military Reservation. Considered one of the
most important and prosperous Missions in its day.
