Mission
Santa Ines
Founded
by Fray Esteban Tapis, in September 17, 1804. This mission is the 19th
in the 21 Mission chain. Named for Saint Agnes of Rome, Italy (patron
saint of girls). Mission Santa Ines was the first educational institution
in California. Extensively restored 1904-1924. Located 35 miles northwest
of Santa Barbara in the community of Solvang.
