Mission San Rafael Arcangel
Founded by Fray Vincente Francisco de Sarria in December 14, 1817. Nick named "Mission of Bodily Healing". Named for Archangel Raphael ( Patron saint of physicians, nurses the blind, and the sick). This is the 20th of the 21 Missions and the smallest. This mission was the first Mission established as a refuge for Indians who were ill at Mission "Dolores". This Mission soon disappeared after it was built. A replica was later built on the same site in 1949.
