Mayohayes - O'donnell Library - The first post office in the state in of California. Two murals grace the outside of post office depicting the John D. Sloat and Sebastian Viscaino landings in Monterey. The post office is located on 565 Hartnell Street.

Located on Van Buren Street. Formerly the first Protest Church in Monterey. John Steinbeck's son, Thom was baptized in this Protestant Episcopal church in 1945. This church is now a tiny library. Built circa 1876. The original location of this church was on Pacific Street before it was purchased by the city of Monterey and moved to its present location. It is thought that this is the church referred to in John Steinbecks book To a God Unknown.
