OLDTOWN
SALINAS
In
John Steinbecks childhood Main Street was part of the main road
to San Jose and San Francisco and ran right through this area
making it a natural location for the cities businesses and hotels,
today the Oldtown Salinas area is filled with restaurants and
coffee houses as well as being the location for the National
Steinbeck Center. There are many historic buildings that have
survived the earthquakes in recent times but sadly many of the
major buildings were torn down over the years because of earthquake
damage.
