The
75 mile long coast of Big Sur
is awe inspiring, a coast where magnificent cliffs meet the deep
blue pacific ocean. The name Big Sur comes from a combination of
American and Spanish words, originally in Spanish "El Pais
Grande del Sur." There are some 29 bridges that span the deep
gorges of Highway 1 in Big Sur. The largest of the concrete bridges
is Bixby Bridge, spanning 330 feet is one of the longest in the
world. Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park is a 820 acre redwood grove park.
The park is located on the banks of the Big Sur river. Pfeiffer
has lots of amenities for campers such as a grocery store, showers,
restaurant and a lodge. John Steinbecks short story "Flight"
was set in Big Sur.
