Marina
was founded by William Locke-Paddon in 1918 who sold 5 acre plots
at $75 per acre. Marina is the Spanish word for "seacoast"
or "shore". Marina is quickly becoming a destination for
weary travelers with hotels, an RV park near the Marina State Beach
and restaurants nearby. The
Monterey Coastal Bike Path runs through Marina connecting
the communities of Castroville Fort Ord and the Monterey Peninsula.
Recently Marina has incorporated a portion of the old adjacent and
decommissioned military base "Fort
Ord." Marinas airport offers sky diving for the
brave. The Marina Locke-Paddon Park is a wetland Park with lots
of birds.
