The tiny community of Parkfield is located in the
south east corner of Monterey County, about 112 miles from Salinas.
Parkfield was named because of the settlements surrounding natural
oak tree park. Parkfield is a quiet tiny town often punctuated by
its many mini earthquakes making the towns
claim to be the earthquake
capitol of the world
a dubious distinction. There are many geologic scientists conducting
studies in and aournd Parkfield. The town has a nice hotel the "Parkfield
Inn," the" Parkfield Cafe", and a small Souvenir
shop. Parkfield hosts the "Parkfield Rodeo" once a year,
every first weekend in May. This rodeo is the real thing where cowboys
and cowgirls from all over Monterey County come to compete in this
event.
