San Ardo is the hub of the oil industry in Monterey County. Meyer Brandenstein established the tiny town in 1886 on the San Bernardo ranch. The name San Ardo probably came from the Post Office who lopped off the "Bern" in Bernardo. A small town with an elementary school, library, a church and two small grocery shops.
