Sand City was aptly named because sand mining business located in the city when it became an incorporated city in 1960. Sand City is said to have a population of 10,000 (workers) during the day and a population of 205 at night. This small town located to the north of Monterey and on the ocean side of the City of Seaside. Sand City is a hard working city with numerous businesses including two outdoor malls.
