John
Steinbeck set his book "Of Mice and Men"
in the Soledad area. The town of Soledad is a busting small farm
town that is quickly changing, with new housing being built. Soledad,
is the oldest Salinas valley established settlement. Soledad is
the Spanish word for "solitude." Soledad was founded by
Catalina Manzaneli de Munras in 1873, named in honor of the brave
padres who had lived in the now Soledad Mission. The
Historic Soledad Mission is worth the short trip to see
this well loved Mission.
