
Tassajara
Springs is the locale of a Zen Buddhist Center. The Buddhist Monastery
welcomes Day guests from 8am-5pm, for a fee. The center offers five-day
retreats from May through September. The retreats are a series of
Zen practice, poetry, yoga and hiking. Shared and private cabins
and rooms are available. The dirt road leading to the springs is
rocky and impassable during the wet season. Reservations
are a must

The
word Tassajara is Spanish American for "place where meat is
hung to dry." In by gone days the Indians in the area used
the location for curing meat and soaking in the springs.
