John
Steinbeck mentions Carmel Valley in his books "Travels
with Charley, and Cannery Row. Carmel Valley
Village was established by Byington and Tirey Ford soon after they
built the Carmel Valley air airport. The village is about 12 miles
from the mouth of Carmel Valley. Today the village is a busy place
and has grown fast in recent years. There are two gas stations,
and many small shops and lodgings located in and near the village.
