Point Lobos is a National Landmark. John Steinbeck was so inspired by Point Lobos that he included scenes of Point Lobos in his books Cannery Row, The Log from the Sea of Cortez and the book Sweet Thursday. John Steinbecks friend Ed Ricketts is known to have collected aquatic specimens in the Point Lobos caves.
